Book Vouchers and a New Year

Happy 2010! A new year brings a new semester and that means spring registration. Classes have already started and hopefully you are all in the swing of things. Just a few quick points about this semester:

  • Book vouchers are now available for print through January 22, 2010. If you are having trouble printing your book voucher, you may need to come into the office and a financial aid officer can assist you in obtaining your book voucher.
  • If this is your first semester and you are just now submitting your FAFSA, be sure to check back with us to verify that we have all of the information we need to complete your FAFSA.
  • If you are selected for verification, we will send you a letter notifying you of the documents we need. please be sure to return with all of the requested documents. This will allow us to process your FAFSA in the quickest manner possible.
  • If you are receiving student loans for the very first time here at GTC, be sure to complete a session of Entrance Loan Counseling at: http://mappingyourfuture.org/FAP/ and also complete a Master Promissory Note with your chosen lender
These are the high points for right now. As always, if you have any specific questions, please feel free to leave a comment and we will get back with you as quickly as possible.

  1. What is Greenville Tech's date for loan disbursement? Student Loan Corp. says theirs is February 10.

    Thx.

  2. The disbursement date for the Spring 2010 is 2/2/10. It will then take about 2 weeks for processing so the first refund checks should be mailed around 2/12/10.

    Thank you for your comment!

  3. I just filled out and submitted my fafsa for 2010-2011. Is there anything I need to do as far as Greenville Tech is concerned or just wait to see if I got selected for verification? I am attending school during the summer of 2010.. what do I need to do to ensure that I receive financial aid for that semester? I wasnt sure if I needed to call and let someone know that or not.

Thanks so much! This blog keeps me from calling the school repeatedly (lol)

  4. I am very glad that this blog has been of great use to you! Please tell all of your friends!

Regarding the FAFSA you submitted; if you are planning on starting school in Summer 2010, you actually would need to submit the 2009-2010 FAFSA. If you have already done so, we will continue to use that FAFSA to award you financial aid in the Summer 2010 semester.

We will begin to use the 2010-2011 FAFSA in Fall 2010. We will contact you once we receive your application and let you know if you have been selected for verification, or if we are able to complete your file.

    I hope this helps!

Thanks as always for your comments!

  5. I am currently a student ( I started last fall) but I didnt mention to anyone last semester when I applied about attending in the summer... I did go over it with my financial advisor when we went over the program I entered in. I did not mention it to the financial aid office. I knew I needed to submit the fafsa but I wasnt sure if there was anything else I needed to do. I was thinking the 2010-2011 covered the summer semester. My financial aid ( as far as I know) showed aid for fall 2009 and spring 2010. It didnt mention the summer so I was worried about that.

  6. If you received either the PELL grant or Lottery Tuition Assistance, both of these can be awarded in the Summer 2010 semester as long as you remain eligible (2.0 GPA, complete 2/3 of your classes). The Summer semester does not automatically show on your award letter but if you enroll in classes, your PELL and/or Lottery money will be awarded to you.

    Thanks again for your comment!

  7. Last question...Will student loans be awarded during this semester if the pell grant doesn't cover everything.. Thanks so much!

  8. Student loans can be awarded as long as you take 6 credit hours or more. There also are loan limits on the amount you can take out per year (Fall/Spring/Summer). As a Dependent student the limit is $5500, as an Independent student the limit is $9500. So if you have not reached these limits, you can certainly take out loans during the summer.

I hope this answers your question!

  9. I see that loan checks will be mailed out around 2/12/10. I am on direct deposit. Does this mean I should be expecting my loan money also around the 12th or the 2/2/10 date? Also I am a student who hasn't been to Greenville Tech in over 5 years. Am I considered to be a "new student" because of this? I know this also can delay the refund. Thank you.

  10. Your refund will be direct deposited around 2/12/10. Also, since you have completed credit hours in the past, you will not have a 30 day delay on your loan disbursements.

    Thank you for your comment!

  11. would lottery money be posted yet for Spring 2010? I know that for Fall 2009, it seemed to take a while. If it shows zero as of today, does that mean i was not awarded any lottery money?

  12. What about making the comment that a Greenville Tech Foundation Scholarship Application should also be filled out in addition to completing the FAFSA? I didn't know about this the first year and missed out on some money that could have been used toward books. I had the Life scholarship and assumed that would cover everything but ended up paying out of pocket for books (above the $150 book voucher).
    thanks,

  13. Hi I recently had a child placed with me through dss, this changes my dependents. Do I need to complete another form or come to financial aid or does this affect the amount I would be eligible for?

  14. As long as you have already registered for your Spring 2010 classes, your Lotter funds should be showing on your account. If you believe this is an error, please contact our office.

    Thank you for your comment!

  15. I have already posted a post regarding the GTC Foundation Scholarship Application here: http://greenvilletechfinancialaid.blogspot.com/2010/01/scholarship-time-again.html

But it is a great thought and certainly worth mentioning again!

    Thank you for your comment!

  16. This could certainly change the amount of financial aid you are eligible to receive. I would advise to come to our office and we can sit down with you and adjust this information.

    Thank you for your comment!

  17. What are the qualifications for Summer FA? Are 6 credit hours enough? Also, when about will award letters for Summer Term be sent? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  18. In reference to Summer financial aid, different awards work in various ways regarding availability in the Summer semester. If you receive Lottery Tuition Assistance and student loans, then yes, you would need to take 6 or more credit hours to qualify for either of these. if you receive the Pell grant, you may be able to take just one class in the Summer if you did not come full time in Fall or Spring. For account specific questions, please contact our office at 250-8128.

  19. Re Summer financial aid...What if I only have 4 credit hours right now but I am on the waitlist for another 3 credit hours? Do I need to pay out of pocket for my 1st class and then if I get into the other one, my FA will come through?

    ReplyDelete
  20. With only 4 credit hours, you are preventedf rom receiving Lottery Tuition Assistance and student loans, however, you MAY be eligible for the Pell grant if you qualify. Your Campus Cruiser award letter should reflect your Pell amount if you are eligible in the Summer 2010 semester.

    Thank you for your comment!

  21. Thanks for your response to the earlier post but I am on "the wait list for an additional 3 hours." That would give me 7 if I get into that class.
