Help us help you!

Even though this blog has only been around for 2 weeks we have seen a large response. Financial aid is a topic that crosses the mind of every student in some capacity. With the economic times that we are all facing, financial aid may be an even more important component of your education. For many students, without financial aid, education is simply not a possibility.

We understand this and we want to help! Please let us know what topics or questions you would like to see covered. We could spend days adding information to this blog but if it does not benefit you, our students, then we have not done our jobs. We want to give you the information you need to have an efficient and effective financial aid experience.

So please leave a comment about what type of content you would like to see covered in this blog and we will make it happen.

Thank you!

  1. I would like advance knowledge of planned disbursement dates for financial aid awards.

  2. That is certainly a valid point. Typically the disbursement dates are about 3 weeks after the semester begins. Currently we do not have these dates public on our website. Is that something you would like to see made available?

Also, once your loans are processed and your lender receives the request from us, they will send you a disbursement summary that will have the specific disbursement dates listed. You can always reference this disbursement summary to verify that the amounts you are borrowing are correct. Your lender is always an excellent resource for any specific student loan questions.

    Thank you for your question!

  3. When do you expect the award letters for 2009-2010 to be mailed out?

  4. We began mailing out award letter for the 2009/2010 academic year in the middle of May. if you have submitted your FAFSA and have not received an award letter yet, I would check on web advisor via campus cruiser to see if you can view a copy of your award letter. If not, then I would contact the financial aid office to see if there is any additional information we may need before we are able to mail you an award letter.

    Thank you for your question!

  5. This is my second session at Greenville Tech, but my first summer session. Can you tell me when refund checks are issued and if you issue them at the same time each semester?

    Thanks.

  6. In regards to refund checks: We transfer financial aid from our office to our business office on June 9th for the Summer semester. So as long as all of your financial aid has been processed you should receive your refund check 10 business days from that date. The typical time-frame for refund checks to be distributed is 30-45 days after classes begin.

    Thank you for your question!

  7. If my SC lottery, Fed Pell Grant, Fed Staff Loan unsub and sub, add up to (for example)...$8,000 and my account summary for the summer semester adds up to (for example)... $3,000. Do I get the 5,000 that is left over?

  8. In regards to your account summary question: Many times the account summaries on Campus Cruiser reflect more than one current semester. Typically they reflect your financial aid and your tuition charges for the entire year and may look like you are getting more in a refund check than you actually are. My advice would be to consult your official financial aid award letter to determine how much financial aid you will be awarded, then contact the business office to see what your current balance is. Subtract your balance from your financial aid, and that will give you the amount of your refund check.

    Thank you for your questions!
